One of my favorite movies, when I was a kid, was Watch the Sandlot. This is a movie that's just perfect for screenwriting. It has an endless amount of potential for conflict and it's about more than just one family. Marlon Brando plays the lead role of Reuben Feffer, who is an out of work actor that ends up getting the part of the lead singer in a musical band. He quickly falls in love with the new girl in his band, Rose.
One of the funniest things I remember about this movie is the scene in which Reuben Feffer tries to propose to Rose. The girl he's trying to get is played by Marilyn Monroe. This gets him into a lot of trouble, but he always seems to come back for more. Eventually he does get her on the phone.
This movie takes place in New York City at the same time as Grease. Both of these are long running comedies that are loved by both men and women. In Watch the Sandlot you have the same sort of tension as you would have if you were watching either of these movies. The plot is about high school football, with everything from being forced to wear boy shorts to having to drink beer in a can to "pass" the game.
During the movie you'll also meet some of the other characters like Addison Montgomery, Kurt Russell, John Tutturro, and more. They're all fun to watch. Most of the times they act like kids. I especially like John Tutturro because he has an incredibly funny accent.
The actual movie itself is a decent length. There's a few different scenes, but for the most part it runs about 90 minutes. There's enough action to keep you laughing, but not so much that you get bored. Some of the acting is good, but as I've said, the story is boring and uninteresting.
Overall, Watch the Sandlot is a fun movie to watch. It's entertaining to a degree, but it doesn't have much else going for it. It's not one of those rare films that will make you fall in love with it... unless you like watching movies that don't end up making a star out of you. For me, I'm happy if I'm entertained, but I prefer to watch movies that will make my friends laugh, and make me happy.
