Với đặc điểm là loài cây thân gỗ, có sự sống mãnh liệt nhưng cây tùng thơm cũng cần một số lưu ý khi chăm sóc:
1. Đất trồng
Là loài cây lá kim chịu úng rất kém nên cần để ý và chọn những loại đất tơi xốp cho cây, có khả năng thoát nước tốt. Tránh dùng quá nhiều phân hóa học và thay vào đó là lót phân hữu cơ với trùn quế để tạo sự thông thoáng.
2. Ánh sáng
Nên để cây ngoài ánh nắng tự nhiên khoảng 2 – 3 giờ phù hợp để ở ban công hoặc cửa sổ. Nhưng tránh để cây ở nơi có ánh sáng gắt. Việc để bóng đèn khi trồng cây tùng thơm cũng khá tốt bởi cây có thể chịu được.
3. Nhiệt độ
Cây chịu nhiệt lạnh tốt hơn là nóng, phù hợp với môi trường điều hòa khoảng 22 – 25°C.
4. Nước
Thuộc loài thân gỗ, lá kim nên nhu cầu nước không cần quá nhiều, nếu tưới nước nhiều cây dễ bị úng, thối rễ, hư lá.
5. Sâu bệnh
Là loài cây có mùi hương để xua đuổi sâu bọ nên chúng ta không cần lo về vấn đề này. Để ý những lá bị héo, bị hỏng thì cắt tỉa đi để giúp cây phát triển ra lá mới tránh để lây qua những lá kế bên.
