Question: What are the disadvantages of train travel?

Answer 1: Travelling by train has some disadvantages. It is expensive and the trains are sometimes crowded and delayed. You have to travel at certain times and trains cannot take you from door to door. You need a bus or a taxi to take you to the railway station.

⇒ Câu trả lời này đã đảm bảo được tiêu chí nêu ra một vài điểm bất lợi của việc đi du lịch bằng tàu hỏa. Tuy nhiên từ vựng được sử dụng còn rất hạn chế, cấu trúc câu quá đơn giản, cách diễn đạt kém hấp dẫn, bạn sẽ không đạt được điểm cao đâu nhé.

Sample answer: I think it’s fair to say that there are a few negative aspects. I suppose the most unfavorable quality might be that trains are often overcrowded at certain times of a year. This is a clear limitation because on a long journey you might not be able to find a seat, which means you have to stand up for hours. At the same time, another stumbling block might be that train tickets are sometimes difficult to buy, especially around some holidays, and this can be a hassle because it means you can’t always travel on the actual day that you want to.

Không chỉ triển khai ý rõ ràng, cụ thể, sử dụng nhiều loại liên kết câu phức tạp hơn, thí sinh còn có kỹ năng paraphrase từ vựng rất phong phú: negative aspects, unfavorable quality, clear limitation, stumbling block, hassle… Những yếu tố này chắc chắn sẽ giúp bạn ăn điểm cho tiêu chí fluency – grammar – vocabulary.

Cũng giống như dạng Advantages, các bạn nên dùng các cấu trúc và từ vựng thích hợp để diễn tả về Disadvantages. Dưới đây là các cấu trúc chi tiết bạn có thể sử dụng:

Mở đầu câu trả lời, trước khi diễn đạt ý “there are some disadvantages”, bạn nên sử dụng các từ nối để tăng tính mạch lạc và dễ hiểu với giám khảo:

I’m sure most people would agree that there are some drawbacks.
Of course, there are a couple of shortcomings.

Nêu lên điểm bất lợi đầu tiên:

I guess the most impractical characteristic would be that...

Unquestionably, the most adverse feature would be that...

Sau khi đã nêu lên disadvantage thứ nhất, hãy sử dụng linking structure để kết nối câu và phát triển, giải thích thêm về luận điểm của mình:

Most people would agree that this is problematic because...
This is an obvious weakness because...
This is a clear limitation because...

Nêu điểm bất lợi thứ hai:

Correspondingly, an additional weak point may be that...
Supplementary to this, a further handicap may be that...
At the same time, another stumbling block might be that...
